1. Can I send scanned documents only or do I also have to send them by regular mail?
If the scanned documents are clear (try it out when printing them), and text/logo/stamps are readable then scanned copies are sufficient, when in doubt you can send them by regular mail as well, but preferably the documents are submitted through the Internet. Please note: all certificates/degrees have to be certified by stamps of the university.
2. Where do I send the documents by regular mail?
ITC
Ms. Angelique Holtkamp
Management Assistant/Secretary EM8
Hengelosestraat 99
P.O. Box 6
7500 AA Enschede
The Netherlands
3. Can I send my documents in another language than English (e.g. Persian, Arabic, etc.)?
All official documents such as diplomas / course records / certificates etc., should have their official English translation attached in order to be reviewed.
This does not count for passports.
4. Will I also need to send my High School diploma when applying for an MSc or higher level?
No, depending on the level of study you wish to follow, you submit your documents. For example, if you wish to do an MSc we do not need a High school certificate, but the diploma of your university level. For a PhD study we need your MSc diploma, etc. For undergraduate studies we indeed need to see at least a High School certificate.
5. I have problems opening the application file
Please use the following link instead to gain access to our application form: The application database is closed at this moment.
NOTE: In order to submit an application for the EM8 programme you need to start by registering an email account. It is very important that you provide a valid and operational email address. Therefore, please make sure to keep your email account active because some free email providers disable accounts that are not used for a duration of time (usually about 1-2 months) so check the situation with your email provider.
6. Can I apply for more than one study / country?
Yes, you may apply up to 3 studies or countries. You can only submit one application: Please note that you do not need to fill in separate applications for them. You apply in priority order, i.e. your first submitted application will be regarded as your first choice, the second application the second choice and so on.
Note: You do not need to register several email accounts to apply to different universities or courses. Also note that you only have to upload required documents once. Your uploaded documents are considered for all universities or courses you apply to. Therefore, if you wish to apply 3 times then you will upload your documents ONLY 1 time!!!
We will not register more than 3 options for you, and please be reminded that the final decision will be made by the Consortium which one of your options will be used, since we expect to get more applications than we have positions. Any attempt to influence the chances of being accepted by applying more than once (through e.g. different email addresses) will be considered as fraud. The applications will consequently be removed.
7. What is meant by sending / uploading certificates / degrees / language tests? Why do I need to provide those?
Uploading documents means you have to scan your documents and send them to us through the Internet.
This documentation will be necessary for you to prove that you qualify for a certain level of study you apply for. For example:
Should you wish to apply for an MSc study, you need to show that you have a BSc diploma. Should you wish to apply for a PhD, then you have to show that you have an MSc diploma and also have the course records of the studies that you followed.
Please note that it is not possible for us to take action in requesting your documents from any university! Should you wish to apply you have to make sure that all your documents are in order.
8. Is a valid language test mandatory?
Yes. Please note that all European universities require a valid language test such as IELTS or TOEFL with a sufficient score in order to be accepted. In previous rounds the lack of a valid language test has often been the reason for rejection, so we strongly urge you to submit such a test. Please see the “language requirements” field in the tables of the “Available fields of study” for each university before you apply. In case you need more information about the language requirements, we recommend you to visit the websites of the universities that you are interested in.
9. Can you give me more information on your program and scholarships?
All information on the EM8 programme and its available scholarships and studies are available on our website: http://www.erasmusmundus8.net
For information on the available scholarships see: Mobility scheme & scholarship and/or Mobility type per target group and duration and accordingly you can apply through our online registration / application form.
For more detailed information regarding the subjects of the chosen studies see: Fields of study. Here you can see which studies are on offer.
Within the application form there is an option to upload your documents, e.g. diploma’s, English language level, CV, etc. to our application page. We will then be able to process your application.
10. What do the terms Diploma, Certificate, Degree, Course record and Research topic mean exactly?
Diploma: proof of graduation from university (certified)
Certificate: High School diploma, any sort of short course you followed, for instance an English language course (TOEFL or IELTS)
Degree: your university degree, for instance BSc, MSc, PhD.
Course record: a list of your grades and results of your studies.
Research topic: depending on your degree; a description of the area of your interest or the title of your thesis.
Do I get a degree when I finish my course / study? |
The courses listed for a period of 10 or 12 months are exchanges or post-graduate courses. These courses offer a diploma and not a full degree.
12. When will we hear if we get accepted or not?
The deadline for the applications registration & uploading of required documents is:
21st of November 2010 (at midnight GMT+1).
The Consortium will start to review the applications shortly after that. The aim is that you will hear from us within six months after this date.
13. How do I know which TARGET GROUP I belong to?
Please check Organisation and implementation of mobility to determine your target group.
Important Note (Proof of registration):
Applicants for Target group 1 (Currently registered student or staff at a Partner University) need to prove that they are registered at one of the partner universities! For this we need a certified document which states just that. Therefore, the applicant is requested to upload required documents as a proof of registration. At least one certified copy (e.g., student ID card, current course record/certificate from the home university, current pay slip/work certificate) must be uploaded in order to validate the eligibility of the selected target group.
14. I am already an Iranian / Iraqi / Yemeni student residing in Europe – can I apply for a scholarship?
This programme is meant to be a mobility scheme, i.e. a programme designed to promote mobilities (movement) from Iran/Iraq/Yemen to Europe. The EU rule on this is that the student who applies cannot have spent more than 12 months in Europe during the last five years. Exceptions are made only for refugees.
15. Can I use the EM8 scholarship to study at any university of my choice?
No, it is not possible to apply for a scholarship outside the programme. If you wish to apply it has to be with one of the partner universities in Europe.
16. Am I free to choose any subject to study at any university I like?
A wide range of fields of study are available, to be found at the application page under “fields of study”. Please note that these scholarships are meant for people who wish to experience Europe. This means that the chosen field of study should take place with one of our partner universities of the consortium, it is not possible to benefit from these scholarships in the country of origin or outside Europe.
17. What do you mean by registration for an email account?
In order to submit an application for EM8 programme you need to start by registering an email account. It is very important that you provide a valid and operational email address. Therefore, please make sure to keep your email account active because some free email providers disable accounts that are not used for a duration of time (usually about 1-2 months) so check the situation with your email provider.
18. What are the required documents to be uploaded?
In the table below you see the required documents to be uploaded per mobility type. Your application is not complete until all required documents have been uploaded.
Note: Only complete applications will be considered during the selection process.

19. Can I do fieldwork in one of the Lot 8 countries?
No. The EU has imposed a number of rules concerning fieldwork for EM ECW scholarship holders.
Erasmus Mundus students must not do fieldwork / projects in their home country, and have to do their research within the EU. If these conditions are breached, the scholarship holder will not receive any scholarship monies, and the scholarship monies must be returned to the EU.
